Climate Resilience Committee
The creation of the Climate Resilience Committee (CRC) is a result of recommendations from the town's 2019 Municipal Vulnerability Preparedness (MVP) report and the 2021 East Beach MVP. In fall 2022, the Select Board voted to form this committee with representatives from town boards and committees, as well as representatives from the three active environmental non-profits in Westport: the Westport Land Conservation Trust, Buzzards Bay Coalition, and the Westport River Watershed Alliance.
The CRC is currently working on a climate resilience report, outlining the climate change risks to the Town of Westport and potential strategies to mitigate these risks. Each topic area in the report, agriculture, health, water, infrastructure and safety, engagement and fundraising, and historical structures, is delegated to a respective subcommittee. The CRC meets bi-monthly to discuss progress on the report, in addition to other pressing environmental issues in Westport on an as-needed basis.
Related to the CRC's climate resilience report is the town's ongoing MVP 2.0 grant implementation. The town was awarded this grant to revisit the community resilience priorities of the original 2019 MVP report. This project is focused on community engagement, advocacy, and equity and will translate these priorities at the end of the grant period into a community seed project. Check out the project portal page for more information on how to get involved!
