Waste Ban Announcement

The latest items Banned from the waste as of Nov. 1, 2022 are Textiles (clothing/cloth), Mattress and Box Springs.

These items must be recycled at an appropriate venue.  Mattress & Box Springs that do not qualify for recycling will be allowed to be placed in the trash at a cost higher than the recycling cost.

Our Transfer Station has had a Mattress/Box Spring Recycling Program for a few years and are available for Westport residents.  There is a fee of $20 per item to recycle.  If it is not recyclable, the fee will be $75.

All textiles (clothing, blankets, curtains, sheets, towels, tablecloths) can be recycled regardless of its condition.  They can be ripped or stained as long as they are clean and dry.  Anything that is contaminated with chemicals or oils can be thrown in the trash.  There are 2 clothing bins located at our Transfer Station for the recyclable textiles at no cost.

Please Note:  Clothing bins are available in other locations in Westport and throughout other communities, please feel free to utilize any of those for more convenient accessibility.  They are intended only for clothing/textiles and shoes.  Larger items are not accepted at these bins, please do not litter.  They are there to collect clothing, which are contained within the bins.  If bins are full, please go to another bin.

To donate house hold items or larger items, please contact any of the many charities or second hand stores.
