Veterans Day Student Writing Contest

The Westport Veterans' Service Officer, Westport American Legion, Westport Vietnam Veterans of America, and Westport Veterans of Foreign Wars are holding a student writing contest related to the theme "What Veterans Day Means to Me."

This contest is open to any Westport resident in grades 9 through 12, regardless of the high school they attend.

Contest Rules:

  1. Entry must be student’s original composition
  2. Entry must be related to the theme “What Veterans Day Means to Me
  3. Entry must be no longer than two typed pages in Word or PDF format
  4. Entry must be received by midnight on Wednesday, November 3, 2021 by email to the Westport Veterans’ Service Officer, Carol Freitas, at freitasc@westport-ma.gov
  5. Entry must be accompanied by this completed form (PDF).

Judging:

  • Each entry will be judged by the Westport Veterans’ Service Officer and a panel comprised of Westport Veterans.

Prizes:

  • First place winner will receive $100 and will read their entry at the Westport Veterans Day Ceremony on November 11, 2021
  • Second & third place winners will each receive $50 and will be recognized at the Westport Veterans Day Ceremony on November 11, 2021
  • This year's prizes will be awarded by the Westport American Legion Post 145
  • All appropriate submissions will be posted online on this webpage and on the Westport VSO Facebook page at www.facebook.com/WestportVSO
