In order to obtain a DBA letter, you must write a detailed letter to the Westport Building Inspector which states exactly what type of business you will be doing and exactly what will be done at the proposed location. Be sure the letter references the location within the Town of Westport. You must be a Westport resident and live at the location you are requesting the letter for. The fee for filing is $20.
Once the Building Inspector signs off on the letter, it needs to be brought to the Westport Town Clerk. The Town Clerk's office will then issue the DBA. The fee at the Town Clerk's office is $60.
Note: As far as the Building Inspector's office goes, the DBA does not need to be renewed (unless the nature of the business changes significantly). However, the DBA will need to be renewed with the Town Clerk's office every four (4) years.
