Served as Appellate Defense Counsel at Navy JAG Office, West Coast, and Legal Officer, NAS Pt. Mugu, before joining the Boston law firm of Hill & Barlow in 1966. Since retiring from Hill & Barlow in 1996, he has acted as an independent attorney, trustee, and executor of wills. He is also actively engaged as an officer or member of the board of directors of a number of charitable organizations, including the National Scoliosis Foundation (Chairman of Board), the Trustees of Reservations (Member of Board), and the Manton Foundation (General Counsel). Although his family has very long-standing connections with Southeastern Massachusetts, his wife and he maintained their winter home in Wayland (where he served for a period as Chair of the Planning Board) until they moved to Westport year-round in 2005.
