Thank you all for the success of this year’s Holiday Fair.  The tables were over-loaded with donated “treasures” and home-baked treats.  And ahh… the hot soup!!  Thanks too to all who generously took the time after exercise, art and other classes to stop by and shop.  As you probably know, all proceeds from the fair are donated to the WCOA to help fill ongoing capital needs.  Happy Holidays to each of you. It is clear that the spirit of the season is ever present in this good place.

WINTER TIPS FROM BRISTOL ELDER SERVICES
Is your home ready for winter?
Practice these winter energy-savings tips:
·        Set your thermostat as low as is comfortable.
·        Make sure that baseboard heaters and radiators are not blocked by furniture, carpeting or drapes.
·        Close your curtains and shades at night and open them during the day.
As your home settles, gaps can open along the doors and windows.  Installing and/or replacing the weather stripping around doors and windows can solve this.

. Are you ready for a storm?
The best and safest way to cope with a winter storm is to be prepared. Prepare for the possibility that you will need to stay in your home for several days.  One way to do this is to create a winter storm kit that includes the following supplies:
·        Flashlights and extra batteries.
·        Battery-powered radio and extra batteries.
·        Canned/no cook foods and a non-electric can opener.
·        First Aid kit.
·        Prescription medications
·        Extra needed medical supplies such as diabetic testing supplies.
·        Rock salt to melt on walkways, sand to improve traction and a shovel.

Tips to remember if you lose electricity:
·        Look to see if your neighbors have power.  This helps to determine if the problem is affecting more than just your home.
·        Turn off electrical appliances, and when power is restored, turn things back on one at a time to help prevent a power surge on the lines.

·         Dress in several layers of loose-fitting, lightweight, warm clothing rather than one layer of heavy clothing.
