1. The meeting was called to order at 2:30 pm by Chair Sharon Connors (SC) in the Town Hall basement. SC explained that she had called this special emergency meeting to discuss how WHC should handle the recent collapse of the south ell and chimney of the building known as the corncrib at 1813-1815 Main Road. The proper notices were made (Attachment 1). ). Also, all members/alternates were notified of the meeting by telephone and/or email.
2. SC explained that the Building Inspector was concerned that the collapsed roof and chimney adversely affected the safety of the abutter to the south. The Building Inspector requested WHC approval to issue what he called a hardship demolition permit. The meeting noted that this use of the term “hardship” does not coincide with that used under Chapter 40C. It was agreed that the WHC approved plans cannot be implemented without removing the now collapsed ell and chimney.
3. JL moved and AC seconded a motion to authorize (by letter) the Building Inspector to issue an emergency demolition permit for the south ell ONLY of the building known as the corncrib at 1813-1815 Main Road. The motion was approved unanimously.
4. It was also agreed that SC inform the owners that they must apply for a new certificate of appropriateness for the revised plans for the corn crib and chimney, necessitated by the demolition.
Adjournment. The special emergency meeting adjourned at 2:51 pm.
Drafted by Jane Loos , revised April 6, approved April 6
