4th of July Parade

The Westport Permanent Firefighters Local 1802 are once again hosting the July 4 Parade, scheduled for Wednesday July 4 at 10 AM. The starting point will be at Main Rd. and Hixbridge Rd. The route will be north on Main Rd. to west on Charlotte White Rd. From there, it will proceed north on Sodom Rd. and end at the Holy Ghost grounds. The Holy Ghost grounds are the staging point for us to award trophies for first, second and third place along with cash prizes for the floats. A trophy for the best antique will be awarded as well. Onlookers can find parking along the road but do not block the road. Keep in mind some floats need most of the roadway to maneuver so park accordingly.

Anyone interested in participating in the parade are welcome. Participants wishing to compete for a trophy must pre-register. To register, a signup sheet will be located at each fire station. Write a contact name and phone number and take the number that corresponds to the sign up list. This list is not a parade lineup order. Parade lineup is on a first come basis the day of the parade. There is no registration fee and it is not required to participate, it is only needed for consideration for trophy placement.

Parade Floats are to line up on Main Rd. south of Hixbridge Rd. There will be a sign posted at the starting point for lineup. Floats should travel south on Rt.88 to Drift Rd. take a right up hill to stop sign and another right onto Main Rd. From there travel north until you reach the parade and get in line. This will make it easier to lineup as turn around space on Main Rd. is limited.

Antique vehicle lineup starts at Main and Hixbridge Rd. along the cemetery and will line up east toward Rt.88. Tractors will line up on the opposite side of Hixbridge Rd. There will be signage marking those areas.

As the parade starts, the back of the parade will be stop and go until you reach a firefighter directing the parade goers. The floats, cars and tractors will be mixed together for a more interesting display for the onlookers. Remember, this is for the community and patients will be needed. All participants are to use care and look out for spectators to ensure safety.

Any questions can be referred to Daniel Ledoux at (508) 636-1110.
