Motor vehicle excise tax due 4/27/06 can be paid online
Motor vehicle excise bills were mailed out on 3/28/06 with a *due date of 4/27/06*. Excise bills only at this time may be paid on-line *up until the due date*. Instruction on how to pay online are on the Tax Collectors home page found here. Please note there is a 25 cents per transaction fee (less than the price of a stamp) that the town does not keep. Payments are done electronically through either a checking or savings account. Multiple payments may be made using a payment cart for only a single transaction fee. It is accessible 24 hours a day. You may view your current and past eBill transactions. Real estate & personal property e-bill payments will be made available with the August lst installment (not available for the May lst payment).
Please note if any adjustments (abatements) need to be made to your bill as you either transferred the plate to another vehicle, turned your plate in, or you no longer live in Westport (as of 1/1/06 for 2006 excise bills) please contact the assessors office at 508-636-1012. * Their office is closed on Thursday*.
Bills are due within 30 days. Failure to make timely payment will result in a $5.00 demand charge along with a 12% per annum interest charge. If bill is not paid within 14 days of demand, a warrant for payment will be issued adding a $10 warrant charge and a $12 deputy fee. Any bill still delinquent 30 days after first warrant issued, will result in a second warrant be served at an additional fee of $17 for a total of $29. deputy fees. Unpaid bills are then "marked" at the registry. Registrations and license cannot be renewed until excise bills are paid in full. A release will be prepared when payment is received in full for all outstanding bills.
